hey does anyone here have experience with this unit? if so how does the reverb compare to that of the PCM81/91? is it the same lexichip?

also, what are the differences between the mpx550 and mpx500?

thanks for your help! cory

The differnece between the 550 & 500.
550 has a compressor algorithm included. 500 does'nt, however you can get a upgrade card(?) for it, about 100duckees.

I will let others reply in regards to PCM81/91. IMO I doubt 500 series are close to the PCM's

I don't have the hardware unit itself but I do have plenty of MPX-500 impulse files. They sound okay but not in the same league as the PCM series units. Same for the MPX-550... not in the same league.

The MPX series processors are Lexicons budget home studio end of the market. The PCM series are more 'pro' end of the market.

If you want better reverbs than the MPX stuff without spending PCM dollars, then forget the low end Lexcion stuff and buy yourself a TC Electronic M-One XL.

yea i checked out the m-one xl and was not too impressed with the reverbs...they sound good, but not gratifying. I've "heard" that the lexichip provides better plate rvbs and a more realistic sound...i've never experienced it first hand.

i had a feeling that was the case between the PCM and MPX series...i guess bottom line is you get what you pay for.

thanks. cory
