I was looking through my Musicians Friend catalog and saw the Lexicon Core 2. This looks like a good card, but does anyone know how many channels can be recorded at a time with this thing. And speaking of soundcards, what does S/PDIF stand for?

S/PDIF stands for Sony/Phillips Digital InterFace. It is a digital standard created by Sony and Phillips.

you dont need spdif unless you are transferring digital audio to and from a dat or hard disk recorder.. ive seen some of you other posts , and i doubt you should be concerned with it at this point..

the core 2 has 4 ins and 8 outs.. and is 24 bit , im not sure if they are balanced..

you should go down to the bookstore and pick up a good book on homerecording.. its a good jumpstart for beginners.. just make sure the book isnt more than 2 years old , or it will be outdated.. itll be 20 bucks well spent..
