Lexicon alpha troubles

so my friend just hooked it up with a lexicon alpha. i went to garage band and made the in outs in the prefrences lexicon alpha in/out for both in and out drop down bars. i have an electric acoustic plugged in to the instrument port and a mic plugged into the back mic port. i get a clear acoustic sound and garageband picks it up and i can record, however, the mic is giving me trouble. its very muffled and just dosn't sound clear, very quiet as well. any help/advice/suggestions as to what the problem is/ what i should do?

I'm assuming you're actually putting the mic in the XLR jack, not the same input as the guitar.

Also, see if you can get your hands on another mic to tell whether its the mic or the Alpha's problem.
