After roughly 20 years of using stand-alone multi-trackers, I have decided to take the plunge into PC recording (actually, it's not really a plunge - more like dipping a foot into it).
I am considering purchasing a Lexicon Alpha (with Cubase LE & Pantheon Reverb) and a Line 6 UX1 Toneport. Although I have read reviews and pros & cons for each, I would like to ask for the honest opinions of those who have are pros at PC recording. Is this a good way to start or is there perhaps a better recommendation?
Thank you for your time and help.

I have been recording on a PC for a long time now, and I would be hard pressed to recommend a better combination for someone who is just starting out. Once properly set up you can expect pro-quality results from the Lexicon and the Line 6.

Just for the sake of comparison, I recommend you download a shareware audio/midi sequencer called Reaper --- LINK. It has a 30 day free trial period to decide whether or not you want to splash out for the $40 shareware fee and is getting rave reviews all over this board.

Beyond that addition I think you made two wise choices.

I would just note that neither of those interfaces seem to offer phantom power (pretty sure that the Line 6 doesn't, and the Lexicon's product specs don't seem to list that capability), but you may already have that in your other gear. The Toneport of course gives you the advantage of the guitar amp, bass amp and preamp models.
Someone else pointed out on this board that if you search this model of Toneport on Amazon, there is a link to a store selling them for $99 (plus shipping and tax if you're in NY), which is less than the usual $129

Thanks for the information! I will check out the shareware and I also appreciate the info regarding the toneport for $99 on Amazon. I will definitely check into that as well. Although I will be parting out my current studio, I have planned to keep my ART tube preamp so that I can have phantom power for my condenser mic.
Again, thank you!
