level boost when mxing down?!

whenever i mix down a multitrack recording CEP boosts the levels and the mixdown has lots of clipping.

i solved the problem by setting the peak levels of the individual track in the multitrack mode to about -10dB before i mix down.

still, there must be a way to avoid this.

is there?

Make sure you don't have you master above zero.

Go to "View" then "Show Mixers Window" to lower the master volume to where it peaks under the 0db mark. After mixdown: compress, limit, normalize, whatever to make it as loud as you want.
