You guys, if any of this stuff is against the law, then Greg Mackie needs to go to jail for all the wild claims he's made, and all the people he's bought off to plug the XDR mic pres on his VLZ pro mixers.

Adam P makes a good point also. I can't believe how out of hand bidding gets on Ebay. I've seen bidding take a used microphone to $290.00 when you can get a brand new one for $299.00. Woohoo, I just saved $9 buying used!

Maybe we can try to parlay this phenomenon into a new game, loosely based on Chess's idea. Let's see if we can (through purely legal means, of course), get people to actually spend more for gear on eBay than what you'd pay for it in a store.

Maybe not

Maybe not. If an individual is delusional, an innocent by means of insanity plea might just work.

I heard Billy Corgan used a Digitech VTP-1 mic pre on two of his vocal tracks off the album "Siamese Dream."

Butch Vig said it made Billy's vocals sound really big and warm. It was his secret weapon.

Anyone else hear that one?

Yeah, I heard that one. Billy always talks about how they used it on Disarm and Today. The two big hits off that album. Coincidence? I DON'T THINK SO!

Plus he says that low cost starved plate pre's maufactured in third world nations add an order of harmonics "never before heard", bringing an unworldly sparkle, depth and musicality to otherwise bland productions.

Bart

That's because of the LEDs behind the tube, giving it that warm tube glow.

Foam-by-mail makes really good accoustic foam
It absorbs a lot of sound, and it isn't a waste of wall space
They don't pack 24 2x2' peices into a 3x3foot box and a bunch of them don't get ripped in the process either

Wyclef Jean swears by this stuff. In fact, his entire house is covered in it. Go figure, such a great solution for so cheap
This is right on with the thread, right?

...mysterirous stuff...when i first started looking for my frist dbx163x they got sold for $20 on ebay (this year)
right now some people even pay $120 for the same unit, on ebay

WHO DID THAT !!! is it you chessrock? are you the evil masterbrain behind this? i bet u r
:p

I suggest we further hype the product by commenting on the excellent customer support and the willingness of the manufacturer to support mods.

I paid $1800 for a Squire Strat because a guy I met online told me it was a good deal. Apparently, Neil Diamond plays this exact model.

Are you saying I got ripped off?

My god! What has the internet become?? This is NOT what Al Gore had in mind.

Hell read "Behind the Glass" and check out the Alan Parsons interview. His favorite vocal mic is the $299 AT4033 which I can't stand on most vocals. That might be a good candidate...but since it's worthy to use on some sources should we pick another? :p

in "behind the glass" there's lots of people that really dig the 1176,
that book made me want it, and about mics, i think the most favorite one was the C12
not in my budget so i just dream about it, and i think that internet has more influence on people than a book, cause here people say stuff like
"totally awesome fkin crazy warm non-crisp tube-like sound", u don't get that in books do u

maybe if we all start posting that we really like digital clipping on guitar solo's lots of people might start recording this way

it really is something new, might become a hype, so make sure you're one of the first to use it on your commercial recordings

Chess, it's time to start your own mic company using Chinese mic catalogs. Have them stamp the word 'pro' somewhere on the mic itself, plug it saying that it sounds just like something else that looks like it but costs considerably more and charge $150 which includes a sticker, shockmount and cherry wood box. Then give TapeOp & EM a few bucks for good reviews...(?)
