Rock Steady
Well guys, i was messing around trying to get a drum mix and still keep the bass hot. I started messing around with a rythym track and it got to be "fun". I thought I might drop this in, somebody might enjoy a little of it anyways. One of the guitars is a little loud on the left and a keyboard is trying to tread water for a little bit on the right but I learned a little about drums on this one. ( bass drum for TR, deep keys for guern, and wide for pipeline ). I been trying to do some homework based on what yall been tellin me... It`s a "Bud" tune.

Nice jam my man! Love the bass tone-its got the low end covered-with a nice high end growl--Tell me how you did your bass??.....it all sounds good to me-a solo would of been nice...reminds me of modeski martin and wood a bit...Good work!

Cool little groove there Ken. I dug the bass playing and tone alot, and the drums were much better than I've heard on some of you're other stuff (and a helluva alot better than anything i can produce;) ). The key's could of came up for my taste. Nice playing by the way...good one!

Thanks guys, its just a little sketch thing trying to work on drums. That bass is a 1.4 meg Fender jazz soundfont, Roland VSC finger bass played with it, and a Timeworks compressor on idle. I haven`t played my real bass that much since I been concentrating on learning keys, except for some live stuff I do with a couple other guys occasionaly. I was having some fun and wasnt trying to get it all mixed just right, just the drums, but thought somebody else might get a grin out it. I love grooves...

OMG

Wow... Toke-ey, I'm way waaaay impressed. This is a helluva-n improvement over the last thing you did... some song about a lighter?

Sweet, sweet mix. You've done your homework, to be damn sure :)

Now, the big, obvious, kick in the face, glaring, pimple here is the latency that's f'ckin up that bass... sounds like you're pretty "latent" there, my friend. Some of them plugins they'll hose ya on latency, that's for sho-a.

Gotta get that timing locked up tight. Otherwise, a pretty damned impressive recording. Now, all you need is a nice jazzy piano to come in over one of the breaks and someone like Sade to sing into a Cathedral reverb & you'd have it. If all you do is get the timings locked up, you'd have Paul Shaffer's CBS orchestra bumper music down pat.

Let It Fly, - now that' a nice groove! The tune keeps the a constant solid energy level, - no huge dymanics, but plenty of well arranged voicings/tones to keep it moving. The mix sounds great.

Something about you; I have listened to this a couple of times over the past week. It still grabs me, - that hypnotic melody is great. I keep waiting for some guitar or sax on your material...now it doesn't *need* it, as the composition and arrangement are very full....it's just my personal preference!

I appreciate it guys. makes me feel like I`m gettin somewhere. I was jus havin fun while learning more about this software deal. Not fishing for kudos, jus wanted to share a feeling...and get some feedback. :)

Participant: Thanks, I hear what your sayin. I'm a little bound up with just a little soundblaster card, DW8000, and a little M30 mixer. As soon as the cookie jar fills again I`ll add a 24/96 to handle the latency thing. I keep the side off the case and a fan blowing on the sound blaster to keep it from hasslin for breath. :)

Fender' glad yu got a buzz. hope to get to meet you before long. Atlanta was home for me for a good while...we`ll go sip some blues and have a beer...

mcmd , most of what I do is just post-it-note stuff due to not having the expertise get it all done, but I don`t forget the idea. Maybe I`ll get to take that to fruition for you before long.

Maybe one of these days I`ll get a little more proficient and be able to put everything I hear inside, on the outside, and then just share it. Thats what I'm really working for.

the drums sound great..........what do you use for the kick drum??.............interesting groove.......you should throw some falsetto singing on top of this one.............sounds nice and clean............good job

Man, that's happenin'...........:)..........the timing issues are latency? I'll have to search on that.

A very cool groove. I'd like to have this groove move over a couple of different chords and put a horn section on it. That'd be cool.

I like it!

Very cool groove. I like it alot. Very clean recording.

mighty fine groove here!

after listening for a minute, I had to start soloing over it.. this is probably the best sounding mix I've heard from you yet..

-edit- fix the latency.. :)

I agree about the bass; really nice lines going on there. I think rhythm keyboard sound is a little off at times and too prominent in the mix; also maybe bring up the lead keyboard (the organ-like sound) at times.

well... i guess the drum and bass mix was ok. I appreciate yalls comments that liked it, i do myself. :)

I think if there is a latency issue, it's between the two bass tracks, the high end crunch track is the Fender Jazz soundfont, the low end is the virtual synth tracking milliseconds behind it, kinda like a rubbery shadow.

now about that the timing? hehehe , thats just good bud and me not worrying about tapping my foot while I cut that, and no quantize. :)

Bob, Sam, got one baking in oven now with requested seasoning.

I hypnotized myself NOT to use more than 1 stereo reverb which kept things upfront a little more. I quit imagining large wooden music halls :p

That is NOT an "organ-like sound" , it's a nylon string hawaiian guitar with 16' & 8' drawbars duct taped to one of the legs, ran though one of those old 56 lb Eventide Clockworks delays... :)

seriously , thanks guys. Yall make learning this fun and tuff !!!

now let`s all get our asses back to work!!

YEAH man,.......

....groove indeed. That is definitely a cool bass tone. Im diggin that ALOT! I like all of the sounds in this. Very "Brand New Heavies" (cool R&B/funk group from early 90's). The mix is sweet. Only nit is the timing issues re: the bass, but you know about that..... ....and when lettin it flow, (and indulging in a little spleef based creativity).... one cant let the little things stop the bus:D .

Great mix,and sounds Tokai....

BTW: I would take Steve up on the Sax in this..... ....It would really make this pop!

G w/ a smooth 5 'cause Im feelin' it:)

This makes me happy. I don't even know what latency is.

Funk on,
Chris

I'm with all these guys on this one awsome sound quality.it may be 2 in the am but i got up to dance with my headphones on,I let it loop a coupla times and started to do a little david lee roth scat attack over it,then my wife told me to shut up and go to bed(No way my connection speed rocks)love the 'almost' sloppy drum intro....classy IMO.Everyones gonna want a piece of this one...a collaborators canvas, just add weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
