Let go-edited for lyrical content

How do all,
This little ditty popped up on 6/02/04. Anybody want to nitpick on it before I develop it further?

Let Go
©Bill Assumpcao 2004

We ain't no angels (and)
Our wings ain't left or right
(If) We agree to disagree
There ain't no need to fight

(chorus)
Let go....the pain
Let go....the hurt
Let go....the anger
Let go....Let's work....

...on being a family
A unit....a team
No hyphenated-Americans
or polarized extremes

(chorus)
Let go..the hurt
Let go..the shame
Let go..the anger
Let go..the pain

Does.. it have to be
Some otherbody's fault
Why just throw more money
In another lawyers vault (No offense to Chris Harris ;))

(chorus)
Let go..the hurt
Let go..the shame
Let go..the anger
Let go..the pain

A...B...C...
D, E, F and G...----------------(okay, I know the rhyme scheme is off here.
Then it's back to A...-----------maybe I can make it a bridge or something);)
Different notes, one song played

(chorus)
Let go..the hurt
Let go..the shame
Let go..the anger
Let go..the pain

I figure I gotta start somewhere. Musically---I'm shooting for that place where Country, Rock and Blues collide.
Have fun kids, :)

Some lines have been changed. Any better? Anybody got any other fixes to suggest?

mmmm...

I don't really like preachy songs...they just never come across in a way that makes me want to listen to them...

No offense...

I like songs that tell a story or describe something (person, place, thing, emotion, feeling, etc...)

"I don't really like preachy songs...they just never come across in a way that makes me want to listen to them..."

There was a bloke called Bob Dylan seemed to have a bit of a way with them.
I always admired the way Springsteen wrapped up a preachy message in a story (Reason To Believe is one of my all time favourite songs).

I think what you're reacting to in these lyrics is that they are unremittingly didactic - every single line is telling you either what we are or what you should or should not do. Metaphors tend to be more effective than straight telling, it seems to me.

Over to you Bill... :)

Well,

perhaps I didn't mean to categorize ALL preachy songs, since I guess Rage Against the Machine is preachy, and i like their tunes...

I guess it would all depend how you pull it off musically...the way your lyrics were bouncing around in my head weren't appealinging, but then again perhaps you had something entirely different in mind.

So why don't you put it to some tunes and then let's take a look at it?

Cheers

Dang, i thought this thread would be about avril lavigne.....shes hot! :D

Thanks bsanfordnyc. I needed a good eye opener. I didn't see it as preaching. I saw it as whining. Like the hyena side-kick of Lippy the Lion. Hardy Har Har. "Ooohhh, Lippy" :D It's the chorus, ain't it. Hmmm, maybe I can pose it as a question? i.e. Oooohhh, why can't we just let go?

Say Hey Garry,
Didawhatic? Time out while I look that up. (Jeopardy theme song playing in the background) Ooohhh, yeah. Basically, the way I've handled being a dad, little league coach, YMCA basketball coach, guitar instructor, etc. Good call. I like it. I guess that is what I intended. I'll just have to find a way to make it auditorially palatable. Thanks, that helps. :)

Yo sneak,
April Lavigne? Nothing wrong with hot girls! I should assume (uh-oh) that she has a song of the same name? Hope she don't mind that I borrow it? ;)

To all,
You ever get just fed up with with rude, vindictive, inconsiderate, tunnel visioned buttheads? Well, I did. And dispersed within a littany of obsenities were these words. I figured, what the hey. This should be a song. But, I needed a good slap in the face to redirect me from the emotional view to a more realistic view of my words.
Thanks, :)
Bill
