Learning Tape Creation

In Barbershop music, it is common to make learning tapes with which people can more quickly learn songs. These tapes tend to have a single part in one channel (for argument's sake, lets say the left) and the other three parts in the other channel. This means that one needs to make a different learning tape recording for each of the four parts.

I would like to be able to do this myself - record one part to start with, then play that part back (in headphones) while recording a second part, playing the first two to record the third, etc...

I was intending to do this on my PC, and rather than cut tapes, burn CDs with the songs on them.

The question I have is, "What do I need in software, hardware, etc, in order to accomplish this goal?" I want to record all four parts independently, then mix them together to create individual learning "tapes" for each part.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You will need a multi track recorder, download a free demo of N-track.
