I've had
a layla 24 for the last 2 years or so, and its an excellent card. ROCK SOLID, running with Cubase on a PC Pentium III 550.
The sound quality of the converters is really good imo... sure for an extra $2k you can get better converters, but the layla has nice crisp punchy converters, and i've played mixes for people with protools systems (not that it means anything in it of itself, any moron can own protools =D ) and they were impressed with the layla.
The midi input is useful too, it has word clock, and an ADAT lightpipe.
I'm actually selling mine only because i need the 24 digital ins and outs of the MOTU 2408 for when i get my digital board, but I'm very tempted to keep the layla for when I get a laptop. They make a pcmcia card for $200 that allows you to use your layla with a laptop. (I'd love it, cant afford a laptop right now though =)
If anyone's interested in my Layla, im selling it for $600, but i'll take a trade for
a Motu 2408mk2, and im also looking for a bare MPC 2000.
Anyways, dont think i said all that stuff cause im trying to sell my layla, ... its really a nice card.
