I'm hoping someone can shed some light here...
I have a Aardvark 24/96 and now have a Layla 24. Both work fine in my audio Apps (Cubase 5.1/SX , Wavelab) and I can switch between the 2 no problem.

But under Sound and Audio Devices (in XPs controll panel) only the Aardvark was there. So to play Mp3 or Wav. w/ Winamp or WMP I could only use the Aardvark. & that is primarily why I had both installed. So I Uninstalled the Aardvark... I was hoping that now the Layla 24 would show up but it won't.

In Device Manager I've checked the property boxes that say use this device and I also tried Map through this device and Do Not map through.

Any Suggestions? Shouldn't I be able to play Winamp through the Layla24? I might try uninstalling and put the PCI card in the slot that the Aardvark was in. It still works fine in the Audio apps too.

Thanks,
B.

I had a similar problem with my Delta 66 card. I thought that was might odd because I was recording just fine one night, but when I went back to recording the next night Windows and SONAR denied my Delta existed. Even uninstalling and re-installing the Delta driver failed - it told me there were no Delta devices on my PC. Reseating the Delta didn't work, either.

The thing that finally worked for me was trying different cards in different PCI slots. After a few tries I found a combination that worked. Maybe that would work for you?

Thanks for the help but I think I wasn't clear enough...

The Layla 24 soundcard works just fine in Cubase/Wavelab ect... and is registered in Device Manager... which says it's working just fine...

but in the Sound Audio Devices it doesn't show up, so I can't choose it to play system sounds (windows start up tune) and Mp3 w/ Winamp ect... When my Aardvark was installed, it did show up and played that stuff just fine.

My bad. Sorry Booda.

Yes, it does make sense you should be able to play system sounds, MP3s, etc. through it. I still have my old SoundBlaster card in mine and can use either (but I just use my Delta for everything and the SB will just be for MIDI once I start down that path).
