I'm tring to set up a layla 20bit with cool edit pro2. Is there a third party driver I need to make this work. The layla is getting a signal but cool edit is not. I'm stumped!

Offhand Try:

Options-> Device Properties-> Wave In-> Your Inputs
Options-> Device Properties-> Wave Out-> Your Outputs
Options-> Device Order-> Recording Devices-> (Move your inputs to the top)
Options-> Device Order-> Playback Devices-> (Move your outputs to the top)

Check the Layla Console and make sure nothings muted and everything is routed correctly.

Go to the Event website, and download the BETA driver for the Layla 20 bit. I am guessing you are running XP..or Even Win2000 ...potentially, and you need more current drivers. Unfortunately, that is all that is available...the Beta drivers, as they don't support the 20 bit anymore. But, I can verify that they work without a glitch as I have a computer with a Layla 20 and running XP. Works and SOUNDS great, although I have just recently got AA2.0

That may be a suggestion that doesn't apply...and if so, I would then think it is in how you have Cool Edit setup... as in devices, etc.

I'm running windows98. I believe I have the correct driver (downloaded from layla site) Someone said I may need a third party driver. Does that sound like a possibility??

no.

If the Layla is working, then something has to be "off" with Cooledit.

How experienced are you with this program...has it worked before with a different card, questions like this...etc??

Question... does the layla work for playing back something in a different program... like an mp3 with Windows media player... or similar?

Well I got the layla used and I have never used anything like this before. I am however some what familiar with cool edit pro. I use to record with an 8 track cassette, a 16 ch machie which I still use and then mix it into cool edit via the mic port on the back of my gateway windows98.
So you see, I'm old school. hehehe Not to metion getto. I might be better off taking a better look at the situation and then get back to HRDOT.com That way I'll be more prepared to ask the right questions.
Thanks for your help. This site is awesome!! :)

definitely check the layla mixing console then if you are new to using it.
