"Hi, I'm in Delaware."
Because I am putting a nice G&L Legacy on layaway tomorrow and I can't take it home until I pay it off... :(

On the other hand, at least I get to claim it. I don't think I would've picked the off-white (vintage white?) coloring if I had a choice, but it's a used piece for an absolute steal, so how can I possibly say no? Now I will finally have a guitar that gives me that Fender sound!

Well, I don't have the final price yet (gotta talk to the boss man first), but between $500 and $600. It's practically brand new! I guess the guy that traded it in didn't have any idea what he was doing and the guitar guys buying it in thought it was a foreign-made model (we don't really get G&Ls in GC), so they gave him peanuts for it. His loss, I guess.

Wow. $500-$600 is a steal! It's not a Tribute?

I have an ASAT Deluxe semi-hollow. Paid $1300 new back in "03 or so. Sweet freakin' guitar. The Legacy's are better than bone stock Strats. Snag the fuckin' thing. Layaway is fine as long as they can't change their mind.

True..... I put on layaway a Paul studio with all of the trimmings but, when I went to pick it up They tried to pawn off a raw studio and that was sad. Needless to say I didn't get it and was refunded my deposit.
What a butt hole that guy was.

sounds like a steal i got on a G&L years ago....

found a nice transparent green G&L L2000 bass at guitar center that played WONDERFULLY! it was used, and it was only $640. i was like, HOLY HELL! i love the tone of these two pickups. nice maple neck, active electronics, parallel/series knob etc. AND it wasn't a tribute! pure american. i was like wow, my first american made bass..i NEED to buy this!

brought it home....ran a serial number check on a G&L registry....turned out it was a 1987!!! the thing is as old as I am! THAT was a steal; there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, it plays beautifully to this day (bought it back in 06). so i edited the registry on the website and put my name to it :D

Layaway = you become an unsecured creditor of the store. Better to be a borrower than a lender ;)

Nope, it's G&L USA, right on the headstock. The reason they bought it so cheap is they thought it was foreign and the dumb seller didn't know any better... I figure it's at least as good as any USA Strat coming out these days.

I do work there, so I don't have to worry about them screwing me over (though I can't say we've ever done that to anyone else, either). Plus I can go play it whenever I want, but only at the store... I do still have to buy a new whammy bar and a case, but still. I'll post some pictures later if you want :)

G&Ls are just not priced/rated that high. Everyone who has played one loves 'em. Leo is dead, man. Buy them now. George won't be far behind him.

Today I discovered that I don't have the patience for layaway, so... I'm just going to go pick the guitar up tomorrow. It'll need a setup, though, which will require some patience... poo. I'll post some pictures for anyone who's interested. I think it's a 2006, but it's hard to say without taking the neck off. I'll need to find out before I can get a replacement vibrato arm, though, since that's about the time they swapped over.

i'd love to see it. i love G&L's!

i NEED the G&L Rampage as soon as possible haha...i've been such an alice in chains fan ever since i started playing, and since day one i've searched high and low for authentic 80's rampages and never found one at a good price....and now they re-issued it, a special jerry cantrell model in the USA and the tribute version. hell, the tribute is $600 still! time to save some money so i can finally have a kahler trem and a locking nut to do all sorts of crazy awesome rock whammy mischief :D

I'm a big G&L fan as well. My main axe these days is an ASAT Jr. I'm on the hunt for the right S-500 or Skyhawk. You're gonna love that axe.

Congratulations!!!

I'd like to see some pix too.

Surely a Fender would be a better bet for that?

From Wikipedia:
G&L is a guitar design and production company founded by Leo Fender, George Fullerton, and Dale Hyatt in the late 1970s[1]. Fender sold his company named Fender in 1965. He designed and produced instruments for Music Man in the 1970s through his company CLF Research. When relations with Music Man soured, G&L was created to continue operations outside of Music Man. The G&L name comes from the initials of George (Fullerton) and Leo (Fender)[2].

G&L instruments are similar to the classic Fenders, but with some modern innovations. They are built at the same facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California that produced the early Music Man instruments. G&L instruments are not widely distributed but are highly regarded by many musicians and collectors. The relatively small scale of production further allows for more custom options than are possible on larger production lines.

I believe you're the one who turned me on to G&L in the first place back when I thought I needed something other than The Paul. I was pretty set on the ASAT Special Deluxe until I discovered that the Paul sounded much more like what I wanted through a different amp, so I got a new amp instead. Lately I was thinking I wanted something that was more different from the Gibson sound and was contemplating getting a Strat, but this G&L fell in my lap, so why would I get a boring ol' Strat?

Silly me. George died last year. G&Ls are great guitars. I'll never sell mine.

I still have a $100 acoustic guitar despite having a much nicer Takamine. It's not worth enough to sell it, but if it was worth more, then there'd probably be no reason to sell it still, so... yeah. I did sell an old set of drums, though, cuz there isn't much reason to have two kits lying around when I barely have space for one. I usually sell amps when getting a new one, but I'm undecided about what to do with my Night Train once I get my Orange Thunder 30.

Anyway, here are some pictures! You can see how little the guy must've used it, or else he replaced everything that could possibly have worn down. There are barely any scuffs on the pickguard and the nut still looks freshly cut. There is one little crack on the body where the neck connects, but nothing serious, and the paint has been rubbed off a bit where you adjust the truss rod, but it's otherwise quite fantastic. I need to figure out what year it is so I can order the correct vibrato arm. Probably have them check into that when I get it set up--the intonation isn't very good right now. I was very surprised to discover that the pickups are very quiet--the only single-coil guitars I've ever played all seemed very noisey, especially my friend's Squier, but this is hardly any noisier than my humbucking Gibson. Which makes me very happy, cuz I get a little OCD about noise :p I'll also have to get used to having frets that don't have 30 years worth of wear on them...

Very nice. Score!!

I've never been a single coil guy although I do have a Strat and a Tele. It's sort of required for a guitar collection. My ASAT has Duncans with coil tap so it's way versatile. In hum it sounds kinda like a 335 and in split it sounds kinda like a Tele. Fills all the gaps but it's definitely got it's own character.

Enjoy yer Legacy. She's very sweet.
