I know actors and power point warriers use lavs, but has anybody have any
advice about using them for singing live?

I would be interested in a wireless lav for someone ( me ) that moves around a lot.

Trying to avoid the madonna headset look because i have good monitoring plus
can't get over the dorky look.

i'm wondering if they are robust enough, if they have much handling noise,
if they pickup a lot of bleed, if they sound thin, and if i have to angle my head when singing.

thanks

Use a headset or a handheld. You'll never get enough gain before feedback with a lav.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. :)

so i would have to look like an aerobics instructor or trade show salesman?

If a lav is out, anybody have any recommendations for a wearable mic, then?

you already referred to actors but singers in on stage musical productions use lavs too. they're stuck to their forehead just below the hairline. the cable goes back through the hair (or below the wig). the sound guys make up for the lack of mic technique (since there's a constant distance between the mouth-mic) with tons of compression/limiting.

they manage relatively high monitor/pa levels without feedback.

fascinating.

Maybe i should build a wireless wig. Just slip on a different one for different
sounds.
Best wireless wig for rap under $100?

As far as headsets go, you don't have to use the ones with the 'football coach' mic in front of your mouth; the real stage sets are very tiny, colored to match the skin, and come on one side of your cheek.

Quite inconspicous, and better sound than a regular lav (I have a live rock-pop album recorded with one of those sets, and the vocals are crystal-clear.)

Best,
C.
