latency

I hope someone can help. I seem to be getting latency problems with my laptop and tascam us122. Everything seems fine when i record to a drum track, but when i listen back their is a slight delay. My laptop is a new centrino with 512 ddr ram. Has anyone got any suggestions to get around this it's driving me back to my old 8 track.

I bought a Presonus Inspire recently, hoping that it would solve my latency problems with my laptop. Well, when I first tried it, it still produced some disturbing latency when using 6-7 tracks. Then I did a little research on the net and found out how I can optimize Windows for recording (just do a search: tweak xp for audio) That totally solved the problem and now I seem to be able to record any tracks. If you still cant solve the problem with that, you might have to look for a firewire interface (instead of USB), more RAM, or a faster HDD.
