I've been using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for a long time now, and I've never had a problem with multiple tracks playing out of synch like I am now. I learned the proper term is latency, I would record one track, then record a 2nd while playing along to the first, and I would be in time. Then on playback, they would become ridiculously out of time... I tried the Device Properties offset thing, but it didn't work... then I checked off "Correct for Drift recordings" and "Correct for Start Synch recordings" and now everytime I record, even for just a few seconds, it has to correct a drift. I'm wondering what's causing this? It works fine now, thankfully, but it's kind of annoying that it has to do this everytime now when before it worked perfectly.

Note that I just installed a new external USB Creative Audigy 2 NX sound card, and before that I had no synching problems. Could that have anything to do with it? Also, it did the same out of synching with Adobe Audition 1.5 too.

dont walk. run and return that sb usb .
a lot of folks have problems with usb. i'm a puter engr and wont touch usb
for audio.
search under my name and read the hundreds of tips ive posted in the past year. if you post your computer confign in full i'll make suggestions for
you. for example a proper pci sound card like a delta.
note also another GOTCHA ! dont fill up your ppci slots with lots of junk
like tv tuner cards and other junk. ive seen lots of problems.

My computer setup is pretty standard, no TV cards or anything extra like that. And I need the external soundcard because my laptop's soundcard is RealTek, which SUCKS for recording (which is also the onboard soundcard from my motherboard on this computer) so I needed something I could switch between computers. If you could recommend anything external I could use for laptops as well that'd be great, but as it is right now, I love the Audigy 2 and don't plan on taking it back. I've got the problem fixed, but I need to know an exact reason why it wasn't working correctly... it can't just be simply that I'm using a USB soundcard...

well if you got it working thats great. just be aware that the convertors in the sb are not too great for audio quality. there can br many reasons TECHNICALLY that usb wont work and it seems to vary.
one of many points i would suggest is while the sb usb is in use try not to use other usb products on the usb bus thus leaving free frein to the sb usb.

Okay, I'll keep that into consideration. Also, could it have anything to do with the USB ports being 1.1 or 2.0?

1.1 is much slower than 2.0. 2.0 is (theoretically) equivalent to Firewire 400, but as Manning1 says, a hub won't support many devices. With 2.0 it's possible to get a message that one device is hogging all the bandwidth.
