Latency between signal and recording...help

I posted here before and someone helped me with this, but I went back and searched the forum and can't find the thread and can't remember how to fix it!! In the edit mode when I record it records a 1/4 scond later then the signal is entered. My sound card shows that it is picking up the signal in time but the waveform and level bar show a latency of 1/4 second or so. I appreciate the help!!

What soundcard are you using? Latency is entirely the fault of the soundcard and its drivers.

Still using a built-in soundcard?? Unfortunately, those are made with less than $1 worth of chips for beeps, boops and light gaming (not to mention cheapness for the manufacturer) and NOT quality music production. Even the cheapest $50 usb asio card will be a huge improvement.
#1 Rule of Recording: You MUST replace the built-in soundcard.

No..it's an M-Audio Delta 44. I had this problem before with the same setup and someone here told me how to fix it..
