Hi folks. Yes, I'm new. Glad to see this is up and running again. It's a really nice board. Okay, here's the deal. I have almost nearly completely decided on the AT4033. To my ears it appears to be an amazingly wonderful mic for the price, but I am really eager to get your experienced opinions. I've been struggling along doing vocals with my VS840 using various dynamic mics including a decent Electrovoice, an SM 57 and Roland's own DR20 and for all their virtues, I'm sorry, you really can't record TRULY good and professional sounding vocals with them. If you could then studios wouldn't be shelling out $2,000.00 for fancy condensers and none of us would be spending $500.00 bucks to try to get the next best things and there would be no market for NT1's or NT2's or C3000's and so on. I know all the caveats about not all mikes being for all voices or no mike does everything and so on. The real question being which mike give you the most bang for your buck. The me bang is this - which mike can you go out and buy for, say, between $200.00 and $400.00 dollars, bring home and hook up to you system and you can be relatively assured that it will give you top quality vocal recordings. I am not simply talking about matters of taste here. I know their are several of these new, cheap, large diaphram condensers that, in fact, are simply pieces of crap. I also know that some record adequately but are nothing to be delirious about. Please share with me your opinions in this regard. Still in the running are the assorted lower end Rodes which I've heard both good and bad about. Also AKG and Sennheiser and even the new Nadys. If you have a strong opinion about or experience with any of the new (or old), lower end condensers please, share them with me. I very much appreciate your thoughts. BK
