lapttop for live recording

I know some of you have, or do use a laptop for mobile recording in clubs. Typically I use one of my Alesis dh24 recorders for live in club recordings and it works very well. I have need for a laptop due to space issues for an upcoming project. Th laptop can handle the recording, 16 tracks at a time tops. My questions is do you guys stop after every song and save to a file/folder or just have each set be "one long song" and split it up into separate songs later. I use sonar 5 and for me the time it takes to save after each song ( about 3 minutes) that will not work well in a live situation. What do you do?

If your software doesn't suck, it should be doing a stable update of the audio file on an ongoing basis in such a way that even if it crashes, the audio is not lost. At least I know MOTU Digital Performer claims to do so on the Mac side of things.

Assuming your software is robust in handling failures, I would record it in one pass, then go back and dice it up later. If this is critical, I would also have a DAT with a stereo mic somewhere just in case things go wrong.

Yes, that is my plan to run 1 entire set then save it to a file,assuming I have enough time between sets for 16 tracks over 1 hour long. Using Sonar 5producer.It has been great for me, stable and reliable. I would rather use my Alesis HD24 than a laptop but some conditions make the laptop a better route for this gig......I hope!
