I'm able to play audio files with my laptop but it doesn't have MIDI Out device. I know most desktops have MIDI device eventhough you don't have MIDI interface. What can I do so that I may play MIDI files on my laptop?

Also is there any stand alone softsynth that doesn't require you to have host appl like Sonar?

Thanks.

You can buy very cheap midi usb interfaces. They work fine. I got an Edirol for mine, but don't really need it since I bought a new soundcard some time ago with midi capabilities. I just went down to the music store in the "pro shop" and asked if they had something and they did, I don't remember what I paid...I KNOW it was under $50, and was likely more like $30. Edirol has several models...mine's very basic.

There's all kinds of devices...most likely USB is what you'll get for a laptop. Most laptops don't seem to come with midi devices, at least mine didn't and it had all kinds of stuff on it.
