OK I know everyone has to be way beyond this point but I need to ask.
I create my own music and play all types of other music with my own style. I want to record the music on CD's. I have a Yamaha Portable Grand DGX-500 hooked to a Cake Walk Home Studio 2 which is in the Toshiba Satelite Laptop.
I use the accompliment on the keyboard to back me up.

The sound is terrific when played back from Cake Walk through Laptop and back through the keyboard and external speaker. Problem is unless it goes through the keyboard the sounds are terrible, tinny etc. when played from the laptop and even worse onto a cd. I want the quality sound I hear from the external speakers but it ain't happenen. What do I need to do or change or learn.

I Appreciate any help

You probably need a better soundcard to record your Yamaha properly.

Better sound

Is it possible the sound you're listening to through your speakers is your keyboard playing live...being driven by midi?
If that's the case it would definitely sound way better because it actually hasn't been recorded at that point.
There are lots of older USB 1.1 units available now for real cheap that have both midi and analog to digital capture.
That way you record your keyboard using midi and then let your sequencer play it back while you record it through whatever device you choose (say an "M-Audio" unit). Then your wave files will sound as good as your keyboard is playing them...you can then mix it down and burn it onto a CD with the same quality.
You might be recording the built in synthesizer chipset inside your Toshiba right now too and that would sound a bit tinny. Definitely not as good as your Yamaha. I say that because even with a lower end built in sound card it shouldn't sound too too bad.

Without further info on your setup all this is speculation.
Good luck!!! :)
