Hey.
My boyfriend and I are trying to set up a home studio using his laptop, unfourtunetly we have no clue on what kind of requirements [sound cards, memory, RAM, comp space] that we need to run this. I know that someone out there must have their laptop set up for recording, and I was wondering if someone could please help? We're looking into using ACID, or Cakewalk, and aren't quite sure about those either, they looked kind of tricky to use, but maybe you just get used to them, learn to know them.

It's be so great if someone could respond with what kind of stuff we would need. So thankyou guys, so much, in advanced. Can't wait to figure out what we need to actually do this!

All I can tell you is what I personally use. And I can tell you that it works perfectly and flawlessly.

I use a Toshiba Satellite P25-S520. Pentium4 3 Ghz, 512MB ram, an external WD 7200RPM 80GB HD on USB2.0. With it I use a MOTU 828 MKII ran on firewire. I use Sonar 3 Producer, Acid, and Wavelab.

This system works perfectly for me. I am in the middle of a project on it, averaging between 25-30 tracks per song and it handles it with ease. Other people have had problem with MOTU on PC's, but I plugged mine in and ran the software and used it all within 5 minutes. I do know that many sound cards are finicky which laptops they will work with, but sometimes it seems to be a crapshoot until you find what combination works. This one works, but it's not cheap and it's overkill for some people. (and not enough for others) But it's perfect for me.
