Hey, ive just got a emachines laptop with a 2.4gig processor, 512mb ram 30gig hardrive... i have cubase sx and i was looking for some budget usb recording equipment, i like the look of the m-audio mobilepre usb. Only need it for recording guitar, electric drumkit, bass n vocals... Is this suitable?

Any help would be muchos appreciated

Do you want to record all that stuff at the same time?

Which eMachine's laptop is it? My M5309 has a Firewire port and I would suggest going with a Firewire interface over a USB one if you have it also.

No, not everything at the same time... lay down the drums first then work round them. My laptop has firewire, but any decent equipment with firewire is a bit expensive (as far as i can see anyway!) I was just wondering if any1 had used the mobilepre and wot they thought of it....

cheers

If you want peace of mind, USB is not the way to go. I would recommend either going with a Firewire solution or PC-Card. I am looking at the Echo Indigo myself.
