Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a laptop, with it's prime use being home recording (or more accurate portable recording).
I've got my heart set on a laptop, and have got a fair idea on specs, but the Processor is the one thing I'm not too sure about.
I'll be plugging in my FP10 (so I'll need a firewire express card) and using CUbase SX. As my current comp has a Pentium 4 and only 512Mb RAM, I image upgrading to 2Gb or more of Ram should be fine, but I don't know what processor to go for.
I've coped ok with my current setup. When I got my FP10 I got stuck in and I think I got to about 16 tracks with a fair few VST effects before the quality went up the shoot.
I was hoping not to spend more than £400 on the laptop itself, and I've seen a Lenovo G550 which has Pentium Dual-Core T4200 2.1GHZ and 3GB of RAM for £379, which to me sounds good. The problem arises when I see similar priced Laptops with 4GB RAM and 2.2GHz Celeron Dual-Core T3000.
Then there's Dell. I've had a Dell before, and trust them and this Inspiron 15 looks pretty good, but the Processor isn't nearly as good.
Is a Celeron worse? For Home Recording, am I better off with more RAM and cheaper Processor, or is the Processor more important?
Any help would be greatly apprciated, as this is a huge purchase for me given my current economic situation.
