hi everyone,

i have limited experience with computer music (using logic 6 in my high school music technology classes), and i have decided to start laptop recording. (MIDI and audio)

basically, here's what i have so far.

-an acer 2012-wlmi (centrino 1.5 etc etc.) which should do.
-sonar 4 producer edition

now, what else do i need to get?
i did a bit of research, so please tell me if i'm on the right track here.

-a keyboard (for the sake of familiartiy, i'm considering radium 61 from m-audio, one i used in high school)
-my laptop has a ac 97 sound card. so i should probably consider an external sound card.(hmmm..but which one? i should keep in mind that this is just for a start)
-if cash permits, then an external hard drive at 7200 rpm dedicated for audio work would be nice. if not, partition my hard.

is there something else? if i want to do midi work, then i need a midi interface right? is radium-61 midi-interface included?

i'm not quite clear with what equipments midi work and audio work require.

as far as i know, my high school had mac's with radium 61 and this roland jv-1010 box, and i would do this patch number thing to get the instruments on the box recognized in logic 6, then play/record using rad61, then finally bounce everything onto aiff / wav files and burn them.

......i'll stop here. i'm confusing myself and probably you too. sorry about that.

if you could post replies that would be of great advice, i would really appreciate that!
thanks for reading!
