Greetings!

So i'm wondering if anyone can help me in deciding what laptop interface to get.
I'll be using it mainly for recording guitars/vox, and i'll want to take my laptop to the stage with my band at some point - so will need all the necessary trinkets. I'll be getting a midi controller keyboard soon, to hook up into it.
I was looking at the E-MU 1616, which seems to be a good standard. But, do any peeps know if it's worth getting the 1616M version? is there much differance at all?
Any other suggestions?
Cheers, squeeze you later.

Oh, and the progs i use: mainly Reason & Nuendo
My latop is pretty nifty, so no problems there.

Firewire 410, thats exactly what I do with it and it works awsome

=P

I don't have experience with either 1616 or 1616m, but the m apparently has pre's that are complete pro quality. Take that with a grain of salt as it comes from a musicians friend review (the actual site, with an interest in selling expensive gear). I'd guess the 1616 pre's are perfectly workable quailty, and it might be an ok place to save some cash (or a place to spend even more... its not *that* far off in price from a firepod)

Considering the price difference is around $100 the difference in the clarity, frequency response and depth of field is worth the money in my humble opinion.

.

cool

so i think i might settle on the 1616m.
the market is pretty saturated now, so i don't think you can do too much wrong, right?

also, anyone got any tips/advice about taking such a set up to the stage?

I looked at all the Firewire and PC-Card options last Xmass and decided to get a Mackie Onyx 1220 with Firewire card instead. I paid $500 total (the Firewire Card was free at the time). With that I get 12 channels, really good mic preamps and nice EQ as well as a full fledged 12 channel mixer.
