hey folks,

i posted a question about the motu 828 earlier, but after reading replies and other related threads, i think i should just post a general query.

ok, i have a toshiba laptop. it has a pentium III 1ghz, 256mb ram, and a 30gig hd. it currently has windows me on it. it has 2 usb ports, one firwire port, one smart media port, 2 pc card ports, and a cdr/rw/dvd drive.

other than reading topics here, i'm a complete newbie to computer recording. tho i do have a bit of experience in recording with adats, reel to reels, etc.

i'd like to use the audio for 3 things:

1) transfer tracks from my 8 track reel to mix and burn cd's
2) use acid to make rythmn tracks
3) direct recording of no more than 8 simultaneous tracks

it sounds like others here are doing this. can anyone tell me what i need to do? tweaks, partitioning, operating software (ie win 2000?), hardware (ie motu 828, tascam usb), software (sonic foundry, etc).

oh, i wish i could do the pc thing, and maybe i will at some point. but now i need the portability of the laptop as i travel quite a bit.

thanks!

tony

ps - if there are other online resources that give this info, i'm all ears! :-)
