azimuth of new ideas
Thanks to all my Homerecording brethren for there advice. And for sharing there experiences.

My new mobile rig:
HP DV9005US
Turion 64 X2 (90nm? core)
1 gig ddr 4200
Nvidia video
100gig 5400rpm HD
onboard firewire(Can't find out the FW chipset for the life of me)I was looking for a TI based one.It works so no complaints.
dvd burner
17" widescreen
Motu828 mk2 firewire
Windows Media Center OS
Sonar 2.2
Ozone3
Never thought I would get an HP Laptop but the deal was to good to pass on.
2.9ms latency stable and running tassman softsynth no problem.I will report back after jammin with the boys and more rigorous testing and or gigging.

Looks pretty good. I was thinking of getting a laptop for a mobile DAW too...

How much did it cost you?

Hey Solo.guitar,
I caught a break at CompUsa.$699 after $200 in rebates.
They had a Toshiba for$699 I was going for but it was the last day of the ad so they were sold out.
I came back the next day to look at an HP in their new AD, but they were out of that too.
Smooth as butter, they offer to upgrade me to the HP DV9005us.
I got 512 more ram, 20gig bigger HD, and turion X2 instead of single core. Could not say no to that.Kinda diggin CompUsa right now!

FWIW,
The Toshiba A105-S4074 uses the Texas Instruments Firewire chipset.
I checked in Device Manager of their display unit.
That is one of the recommended chipset manufacturers for maximum compatability with Motu and probably some other audio interfaces.

Next get yourself an external firewire drive to record to.

I'm running a Gateway 2.8Ghz P4 with a Motu828mkII daisy-chained to a Glyph GT050 firewire drive with ZERO problems.

Hi Tim,
An external HD definitely will be on my Xmas list.Glyph make some really nice units. Will probably go WD or Seagate though.
I am pretty impressed with this machine so far as is. At 2.9ms. I have been able to play Dxi's like tassman, alien revalver, effects like ozone trash.Throw Ozone 3 on the master bus.Run like 12 tracks playback, with all this going on.Averaging about 17% cpu usage.
I did tweak startup and got my processes down to 38 from 52.
I don't want to do any serious tweaking til I know the system limitations right out of the box.
FWIW,no problems with motu driver install, and no problems running my Lucid AD9624 through the spdif TosLink or coaxial inputs.
