i was looking at the delta 66 and cards similar to it and was wondering if there was any cards out there that had the 6 in's but didnt have the PCI card that you have to actually put in the computer. if maybe there was any that would plug into a PC slot on a laptop or a usb slot or anything.... but they have to have at least 6 in's.

anyone?

MOTU has some great firewire devices with upto 12/12 I think their smallest is 8. Since you didn't mention price, I didn't think it was an issue.

price isnt a HUGE issue but the cheaper the better. thanks for the info i'll check it out.

so take the MOTU 896HD for example. if i had drums miced and plugged the MOTU 896HD from the firewire plug into a laptop then i can record 8 different drum tracks (bass, snare etc.) onto cool edit pro?

and how much $$$ do these things run at?

Yes! Assuming you are using the 8 different 1/4 ins from your audiointerface. If you are using a mixer and have all 8 mics going through the mixer, all the signals will be mixed (hence the name) and you'll get one track (or eight of the same if you manage to plug your mixer into all eight ins).

The MOTU webpage will show you a price range if you do the compare here it is http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/body.html/en .

As you can see even the cheapone is not 'cheap'.

does anyone make any sound card with only 4 ins? (and it'll obviously be cheaper)

this should probably actually be in the 'ads for recording equipment' section, but since we're already talking about them...

If anyone is looking at the M-Audio Firewire410 (which scrubs just linked to above), I have a used one for sale for $300 + shipping. Fully functional and almost perfect condition with only a few barely visible scratches. I can send pics if anyone wants.

Here's M-Audio's page on it:
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FireWire410-main.html

The 410 only offers two analog IN's.
You would need some form of dual channel preamp with S/PDIF out to utilize the other two inputs.

yeh im lookin for something like the MAudio Firewire 410 or the PreSonus Firebox 6x10 FireWire. you say you have one similar for sale?
As crankz1 said, you might want to research it pretty good to make sure that the Firewire 410 really would work for you. If you come to the conclusion that it's what you need, then I have a slightly used Firewire 410 for sale for $300 USD (roughly $370 CAD).

[Edit]I'll pay the shipping too[/Edit]
