Lapel microphone on a Cellphone

I want to buy the Sony ECMCS3 Clip style Omnidirectional Stereo Microphone to use during skype calls and gaming with my friends on my laptop. I was wondering if it could work as a microphone if I connected to my cellphone, and used to record video?

Yes you can.

You may not get stereo. It depends on the cellphone socket.
