Is it me, or is the Langevin DVC the best deal out there for mic pres or even a front-end?

I've read raving reviews, it's been recommended by a local engineer, and looked at things in the same price range that don't have the quality/features that this unit has.

I been looking at it too. The dual mono is even cheaper than the dual vocal combo, it can be had about $1100. Not bad. I think the best deal around right now is the API 3124+. Its the cheapest way to get API pre's with power, 4 pre's for $2400.
I also think the vintech 1274 looks like a great deal too, and I've heard good shit about it, and even heard some tracks. Nice, and sounds great as a bass DI too. $1350 for 2 channels. Pretty good.
And don't discount the Brent Averill Neves and API's either. Single channel real Neve 1274 for about $1100 I think, and I;ve been looking into the DaviSounds too, $650 for 4 channels, but I havent got much info on them.

tubedude,

thanks for responding. I am looking for something of the 2-channel variety. When you look at the Dual Mono for $1100 and the DVC for just a few hundred more you get quite a bang for your buck. That's why it seems like such a good deal to me.

Also, I've been taking quite a long look athe Buzz Audio mic pre and comp. Pro engineers are raving about them and the prices are great for something top quality and handmade.

The API stuff is a little out of my $$$ right now. I'm trying to keep my pieces under $1500.

I've been told the Neve 1272 circuits are, like, headphone amps out of the old Neve boards. I guess people are really tearing up those old boards and marketing anything with the "Neve" name on it.

Let me know how to get info on the Davisounds stuff. I need a good 4-channel unit too.

Thanks,

T. Alan

It just so happens that the talk-back preamps in Neve consoles (1274's) sound better than the "super-pro" VLZ in Mackie boards. Its a good, thick preamp, good for kick and snare and alot of guitar and bass.

The 1272 has the same input/output transformers, same amplifier card as the 10 series neve preamps (1073, 1081, etc..) they just have different gain setups. The 1073 has three gain stages while the 1272 has only two. They sound almost the same, the sound starts to sway from a 10 series sound with higher gain applications. Thats the short explination in a nut shell.
