Will this cause me any problems? If so is there anything i can do to decouple them? Asthetically speaking there isnt really anywhere else they can go?

While im on the topic is anyone using the Auralex MOPADS Isolation Pads? Im buying some new gear, m-audio bx-5's and a HP4 to replace my hi fi monitoring solution and was thinking i'd get some of those too...

Actually weight on top of monitors is good as long as the lamp isn't rattling. So is something like the Mopads. I use rubber strips under my monitors.

I use the MOPADS on top of stand that I made from sand filled PVC pipe. They work pretty well. They are cheap enough so there is no reason to not use them. Unless you are a cheap bastard.

I have lamps on my monitors. It's actually good placement as far as giving off an even light on your workspace. I haven't noticed any negative effects as far as audio.

Duh... everyone knows lavalamps radiate a positive energy that actually IMPROVES the quality of the audio...

that's why we all have them in our studio...

right?

...

oh, it's just cuz we're a bunch of nerds... never mind then

Don't have any input as far as the lamps are concerned, but I'd definitely recommend the mo-pads. I can see how they'd help keep rattling to a minimum in the scenario of putting a lamp on top of the monitors, but regardless, they'll tighten up the sound of your monitors and are a solid low budget investment.

Right, I use the MoPads too. MoPads under the monitors and lights on top of them! :D

Question about the MoPads, are they ridig at all or do they require full support underneath? I only ask as my monitors sit on a shelf thats not quite as big as they are.

I use mouse pads under my monitors and small gel wrist pads, too, near the front edge to angle the monitors slightly upward toward my ears. Cheap and workable.

I'd say with the MoPads that you want full support underneath. In general you'd want that with monitors. Maybe the thick mouse pad idea would be better for you if your shelf is a little narrow front to back.
