L'Amore Sei Tu - Classical Rock Ballad

There is some clipping distortion on the vocals. Try to bring the levels of everything else down a bit, and use compression sparingly on the vocals to bring them out.

Performance-wise, I really like your voice, and the arrangement is nice.

The vocals are spot on and sound like one formally trained in music. The recurring melodic theme gets kind of monotonous, but overall, classy and high quality. I also like the panning/separation of the vocal parts, but that's just me.

Perhaps a duet with Whitney or even Dolly is in order? :)

Thanks a lot Strumbone!! I'm glad you like the panning. I originally put the harmony in the center, but thought I should experiment with panning the parts to the L and R channels to see if they would sound better.

Somebody get Whitney and Dolly on the phone, we've got a hit! :D:D

Thanks for the suggestion and feedback Rokket, you actually just reminded me about compression on vocals, which I was planning on learning how to do on Cubase. Upon listening again, it does sound like the instruments sort of overbear the vocals.

Should I export the vocal track as a wav and then put it through the software compressor?

No!
You can add the compression as an fx plugin right in Cubase. Start out with 3 miliseconds attack and 100 miliseconds of release, a ratio of 2 to 1, and bring up the makeup gain to -0dB; then work your way up from there.

Then bring down the music so that your getting -24 to -18dB on your master fader and bring the vocals in over that.

Ah.... this is back to your style, Jon!

Voice is brilliant as usual. Is this an original from you? Could use some more length. What exactly are you singing in the end "l'amore sei qua"? I'm asking because I speak italian (my favourite language...:D). I think if you follow Rokket's advice you give the voice a better quality. Nice going, once again.....oh ánd stay<out of trouble when you're with Withney! :D

Thanks a lot Joey! :D

It's pretty much just an Italian translation of "I Will Always Love You," but I still have to record the verses so this is an excerpt from the end.

In the last part, I sing "l'amore sei tu, e sempre sei tu, ormai, l'amore sei tu," except that I modified the vowel "tu" to "tua" to make it a little more resonant...hope that doesn't throw off any Italian speakers, haha.

...and don't worry, I'm much too young to get into any trouble with Whitney. :D:D

Thanks a lot for recommending those settings, rokket!! I finally figured out where the Cubase compressor is (I think it's the plug-in called "VSTDynamics," right?). I'll try it tonight!

OK, so I added compression to the vocals and lowered the instruments a little bit (as well as EQing the final mix a little differently). Are there still any problem areas?

Thank you so much for the feedback, I think it sounds much better! :D

Hey Stranger! Sounds beautiful. In thinking back to the very first song you posted, what an improvement overall! The production is way better and even your voice sounds better, although that was always great.

Very pretty, very calming to listen to. Great job my friend!

Thanks a lot Jen!! :D Long time no see!

I've been learning how to use all the software and such since I posted my first song, so I'm glad you noticed the marked improvement! :D:D

Much better this time 'round. ( I heard the first a few days ago)

Looking forward to hearing the whole song. :)

Sounds much better, Jon. Voice has a nice clear quality to it now, I can understand all the lyrics. Strings give it a nice feel. Nice work! ;)

Thanks Joey! You don't know how glad I am to know that an Italian speaker can understand, haha! Thank goodness I pronounced the words right! :D:D

Love the rolled R's. You're using much more range on this song than I've heard previously. Maybe hitting near the lower limits... still well controlled. What are you using for backing tracks?? Did I ask this once before??

You definitely have come a long way quickly. Very nice job....

Thanks for sharing. :)

Thanks Chili! Yeah, the verses are a little on the low side. :D

I use EastWest Symphonic Orchestra and Goliath for the backing tracks.

To think, a few months ago, I was planning on going to a studio to record since I was pretty clueless on the whole home recording thing. I'm sure very glad I learned enough to be able to do it myself now! :D:D

Thanks for the help, guys!

that was pretty cool. I always thought that song was a bit goofy but you made it really likable. I thought the bass was a bit undefined, but it wasnt anything terrible. I really dug that. that strings sounded really good.
