When i record multi-track (n-track studio) for longer periods of time (while listening to another track) there is a very noticable lag happening...ifi record in small bits...you don't notice the lag at all. Also i have three soundcards (awe64(x2) and sb16) they are all fullduplex and i have full duplex on...but i can't use one for listening while recording or vicevesa cuz then everything is off (lag)

Could you please explain your problem in a better way? This in order to get a fair chance to a reply that can help you.

If I would aks a question like you did ...

Would you be able to answer?
Come again.
I think you need a faster Hard disk and more RAM. But you probably already think the same...

i have a p233 64 mb ram, and i am using n-track to record. i have three soundcards: AWE64 (two of them) and a sb16. If i use one for an input and one for an output, the recording is not together with the origional track. (the new one will speed up...) I have also tried to use the awe64's to record and use one of them for playback (fullduplex) or the sb16 for playback...but again nothing is together when i play back the recorded tracks... makin' sense yet? Yah i already knew that i needed a faster hd and more mem...doesn't everyone?! :)

Unfortunately, and you can trust me on this, no two soundcards run at exactly the same rate (not even two awe64s). I too run 3 soundcards at once, and learnt a lond time ago that I must always record, monitor and playback each track on the same card, otherwise it all drifts out of sync.

It's because all devices use their own crystal clock to determine how long a second is, and no two crystals are identical. Some higher end soundcards enable you to use a word clock in/out system to sync up different cards, but not AWEs or SB16s.

I guess this means that although you can play back 6 tracks simultaneously, you're still going to be restricted to recording 2 at once. Unless you can cope with the sync thing.

There's no real way around it - when you record to one card, you have to listen back to that card while you record.

Hope that helps,

matt

You also may want to play with your buffer settings. I know n-track is really sensitive to such things. If you're running Win98 or (GAK) Win95 you will have problems, too. n-track was developed on NT.
