Hi,
I can lay down two tracks fine, but when I do the third, whilst the others are playing and trying to record the new one, there is a huge lag time and what I end up playing is a few seconds behind the other tracks. I have 44 Processes running and no programs. I am using M-Audio Fast Track. How can I get rid of this lag time?
Thanks

This is latency, the time it takes your computer to generate the sound, process the new sound, and send it back. There are several solutions.
1. In Options/Multitrack tick the boxes for "Correct for drift in recording" and "Correct for start synch in recording" (if you are using AA, it may be labeled differently, but it will have the same meaning).
2. Make sure everything is synched up to a single word clock. If you have clocks running unsynched you'll have to use option 1.
3. Record something with a sharp attack (hand clap from drum machine, for example) on Track One and then route it around and rerecord it into Track Two. Measure where the initial attack peak is on each track and subtract the time of Track One from the time for Track Two. That figure is your latency. Enter the number of milliseconds in the "Multitrack Latency" window under the Options/Wave In" tab. This will delay playback to match your new input.
