lacking drum cases.

hi,

I have a gig tomorrow and i've been asked to take my drum kit. I don't have any cases and was wondering what everyones suggestions would be for transporting my drums to and from, and within the venue. Just wrap them in duvets or blankets? or does anyone have any better suggestions

Before I had cases, I'd wrap them in blankets, mainly because they were stained and I didn't want the finish scratched.
 
haha....you guys are way more worried about your drums than my drummer. It just puts each piece in the trailer on top of all the other stuff.

I wish he would get cases. I hate to see his drums get scratched up. But hey, they're his and he'll do what he wants.
 
Soft Cases

If you're looking for something economical yet practical try soft cases. They collapse much easier, and you pretty much fold up all the cases into one and smush it under your stage/riser/backstage.

I use a set of soft cases made by Ritter. Ritter, I believe, is a luggage company but they they have their specialty luggage such as musical instrument cases. Their soft cases come in two models: The thinner fabric (less protection but still works great) or more protection (just a little bit thicker fabric).

Anyways I bought a five-piece set of cases for $75.00 CDN and I use them all the time. You just can't wip your drums around like some geniuses do with hard cases!

I have a soft snare case and a cymbal bag, as well as a sports hold-all for my hardware. The rest of the shells I just put into the boot of my car, as they fit nice and snugly so don't move around. They've never been damaged yet.

you need to check your facts--this happened when they were on tour with Kiss--not during his audition. ;)

to the topic at hand, spend $100 on some soft cases at your local GC. barring that, blankets or towels or whatever will work in a pinch.
