Cosmic Cowboy
This is something I just finished up tonight. I may go back and take a few more passes at the final mix with some tweaks, but I think all in all, it's done.
Did all the tracking to my Otari 2" tape deck, and then I mixed it right off the 2" down to a 2-track tape deck....so the only time I dumped anything to my DAW was this final mix so I could convert to digital for uploading.
I haven't done any "mastering" either...so I may give it a light touch in the DAW at some point just to put some polish on it, but I think it's pretty solid as-is.

It's an instrumental (haven't done one in ages) that grew out of a simple jam I came up with during the summer.
It started out kinda basic....then I just kept recording more and more tracks, and it morphed into this song...

La Luna Pasa

...and this is the original jam that inspired the song, though I didn't use any of the tracks from the jam, and instead recorded the all the song tracks from scratch.

Hi Miroslav....sounds very good to me..nice production/mix....perhaps if was me tho, i might add a little more bottom end on the Bass to give it a bit more substance, but that's personal preference.
All sounding very clear tho and well done!
Nice guitar work too by the way!

Sounded nice. I liked the lead tone. Good playing. I liked the instrumentation.

I didn't care for the kick tone. Almost sounded like it belonged in a techno song. It didn't fit the genre to my ear. It was also pretty boomy. Covered up the bass. Really liked the snare sound.

Thanks guys.

Yes, out of all the elements, I was trying to find a way for the bass and kick to sit right. At one point I had the bass up more, as I think the bass line helps to drive the song...but then thought it might be too much.
AFA the kick....it's what I have, and I agree it is IMO too big/woofy for the song. I tried dialing in a bit more beater "click", but it wasn't coming through.
Those two things are what I wanted to maybe go back an tweak some more as I mentioned in my OP.

I did these mixes after a whole bunch of passes last night....and I was starting to lose my hearing and not being able to make the right judgments from having heard the song about a hundred times in a row...so I figured I would grab a couple mixes and then let them simmer for a few days, and then listen to them again with fresh ears.

There's so much shit going on in the song (I got a bit carried away :D)...it was a task to try and get each element to be present and without simply melting away into the background and getting masked by the rest.

Can't offer any suggestions for the mix; it all sounds good to me. Especially like the percussion.

Good job, I enjoyed it. :)

Sounded really good to me for sure. I keep wanting to hear more low end. Although I am listening in a new studio with JBL4328P's It's a good room tho, but I'm new to it. AND, all I have been listening to today are my mixes that I know well so I can learn the room. Detail and separation is great here tho.

Thanks.

It's funny, in my room, the low end was sounding pretty good (Mackie 824), but at one point I too wanted to hear more low end, so like I said above, it was a tug of war between the bass and the kick.
I think when I sit down this weekend to listen to it again, I will most likely push up the bass, since I think the bass is more key than the kick, and then take out some of the big thump out from the kick so it doesn't muff things out.

I also have a pair of organ tracks....actually I have two pairs....but one of the pairs is made up of two single notes in the low octaves, one note to one side and an octave higher note to the other.
I wanted some more of the low-end drive for the existing organ tracks, so I added these two....but can't decide if they help or hinder the overall low end. I played it safe and only pushed them up to a point where they added just a bit to the sound, but didn't become too prominent. I may try pushing them up more as they do have some interesting flavor with the vibrato and key click.
