Hi, more basic questions.

I'm trying to hook my yamaha DTXPress up to my Tascam 414MKII. I'm using two mono cables (I thought so at least, there's only one band around each plug, usually I use them for guitars...) each one plugged into it's respective jack in the back of the DTXpress and tascam saying "l/mono" and "r". When I get done recording and try playing back, I can barely hear anything at all. I've tried using the method suggested in the Tascam manual for playback, but that doesn't seem to work. Am I using the wrong cables, or am I just completely passing up something obvious?

EDIT: Just in case you're wondering, I have the faders up in the shaded area, and I'm peaking at about ±4.

Do you have the knobs labelled 5/6 and 7/8 turned up?

Although Input 5/6 can be used as a Mono Input 7/8 can't. You should only use 7/8 with a Stereo Jack plug (2 rings). ALSO, I'm pretty sure thes two Inputs are Hardwired to the Stereo Buss (check the routing diagrams in the manual), and thus will not print to any of the 4 tracks. But don't quote me on that: it's been a while since I used a 414.

The best thing would be to use one or two of the four main channel inputs.

What's a DTXPress?

A DTXPress is Yamaha's electronic drumset. I had the same playback problem yesterday when I went through one of the main channels. However, I'll try again right now. Thanks.

You had the Mic/Line. Off, Tape switched to Mic/Line right?

Well, I got it! Thanks! I went in with one cable from l/mono to l/mono and it worked fine. Fun stuff once you know how to work it.
