L A T E N C Y !!!!!!

Hi guys,
I have recently set up an old laptop (P3 , 600MHz, 256MB RAM) with Propellerheads Reason 2.5 to do some MIDI sequencing with my MIDI keyboard. I'm using a MOTU FastLane USB MIDI Interface, and I'm getting way too much latency. I can get the latency to 5ms by decreasing the buffer size, but the laptop can only cope with 58ms before I get pops+cracks etc. Is this because :

1) my processor is too slow
2) my audiocard is shit
3) I don't have enough RAM
4) the drivers for my audiocard are shit

Please post all !!! 58ms is only just useable and its bloody annoying !!!

It probably has a bit to do with all of what you listed. Not to mention the fact that the harddrive is quite possibly a little slow as well.
