Has anyone here tried the KX Project driver for Creative soundcards? The Sonar support page recommended downloading it to get around the problematic XP driver from XP. So I downloaded it and started to install it. It gives a message at one point to ignore any messages to reboot. The problem is that when it pops up to tell me to reboot, theres no option besides, reboot, or to do it later. if you choose later, the window closes and you have to stast installation all over again, and the cycle repeats itself. I've been having a hell of a time since I got this computer. Nothing goes right. At least with my BR8 i could actually RECORD MUSIC. Sorry. I am just frustrated at my inability to perform the most mundane of computing tasks.

Did you READ the instructions for the kX-drivers? I read them and thought it was pretty straight forward... But that was a long time ago (5 months).

Hey Moskus, how do you like it ? I've just downloaded it, but not install it yet. Does it handle Soundfont good ? I saw in friends system, it run smooth, but a bit "too complicated". And once he said you must reverse the L/R output ? There's gotta be sumthin worth for us to know after five months you rode it... :D

Well, since I have abandoned all Creative cards (and are happy with that) I gonna tell you what I remember. Acutally I only tried them for a month till I got rid of the Audigy-card.

First of all, soundfonts. I didn't get them to load properly in Sonar, got all kinds of error-messages ("your soundcard doesen't support soundfonts", "soundfont memory is to low to load "GoldDrums.sf2", etc). I didn't even find where I was supposed to adjust the soundfont-memory. And I read the documentation well! Now that wasn't a big deal. I could get the latency low enough to use the Livesynth DXi (I don't remember the actuall figure of latency, but it was acceptable).

Second, switching rear and front outputs. The developers of kX-project say that the rear outputs are much higher quality than Creatives front outputs. And I think they're right. There was a difference, but not an extreme difference.

General performance: I agree, the kX-drivers was way to complicated to me. I think the design of the patch-board was awfull, but if I knew how to use it, it would shure be a blessing.

The drivers were very stable when just runnig audio! And a great drop latency wise, also...

I say: Don't use them if you have something else to do, like making music ;). It's not just a switch of drivers, it's a different way to use the audio-card....

But then again, it could be just me.... :D

i have to say i am stoked on them. I bought a lexicon core2 for $20 to use on a second pc to run reason and other softsynths back into my protools rig. on the "low latency" setting fixed at 6 ms I was geting pops and cracks.

I found those driver, dusted off the old sb live and now I get rock solid stability w/ 2.33 ms in reason, native instruments stuff etc.
Then I sold the core2 on ebay for $125!

:)

Just make sure you use the kx drivers and not the apslive ones...couldn't get those to work. Kx went inperfect the first time.
