Hello all,

Been lurking for a while and studying, thanks to everyone who's posted thus far. My current question is this: do KVM switches work between a MAC and a PC? Also, has anyone had any problems (performance-wise) using a KVM switch between their audio comp and their general internet use comp?...oh, and will direct-cable-connection still work for file transfers?

I have the opportunity to get a (crappy) PC for free, but I currently am using an IMac G5 for recording.

Thanks for reading.

Dr. Trivicon-

Well, I don't know about using a KVM between a Mac and a PC though it seems like it should probably work since it's just a simple switch. The only problem might be that you would probably need some kind of adapters for the video depending on what kind of a plug your Apple has on it. I have been doing this for a while sharing a keyboard, mouse and three monitors between two computers (one monitor is dedicated to each computer and the middle one I can switch between either computer). I originally bought a mechanical switch for this and it quickly began giving me problems because it was so poorly made. Since then I've switched over to an electronic one that is much better. It operates by pressing the "Scroll Lock" key twice and then either the number "1" or "2" depending on which computer I want to use. I'm really pleased with this arrangement.

I've never tried using a direct cable connection to transfer files. Are you talking about transferring them from the PC to the Mac or vice versa? I wouldn't think that would work, but I will defer to someone with more knowledge than I.

Ted
