I been wanting to get a bigger guitar amp and I don't have a huge budget.

I played this kustom at the music store and didn't think too much of it until I hooked a Blackstar HT-Dual tube pedal up to it, then it was just freakin smokin.

The amp itself isn't much, the reviews complain about the distortion, but it's a $379 half stack - running the Blackstar through the clean channel sounds excellent.

Anyway - the amp was $399 and it recently dropped to $379 - now with the Columbus Day sale both Musicians Friend and Guitar Center has it for $322 shipped!

So maybe this is the weekend to pounce on this bad boy.

What say you? :)

never played through that amp, but based on what i've heard about recent Kustoms, i'd say you could do better used. and end up with an amp you won't outgrow as quickly.

wanna buy a V4 head?

I had a Kustom Quad 100DFX combo a few years ago...it was one of the limited edition with creme colored Tolex...looked killer.

Out of the box...it sounded great.
A week later...it sounded OK.
Two weeks later...meh.

Once I started really listening to it, I hated any of its crunch sounds. Next to my tube amps, it left a lot to be desired...though of course, the cleans were good, but then any solid state amp usually has decent cleans.
It was going to be for gigs/jams...but I always preferred playing my other amps.
It sold on eBay not too long after I got it.

Well clean is the only channel I need. I could get a Fender Superchamp XD.

Whats a V4 head? Never heard of it

The only amp I have ever had is this Fender Frontman 25R practice amp :0

If you can get the tone you want with the pedal then you should get it. It just needs to be louder and clean for your pedal and it sounds like it is.... 322 is a great price shipped.

this photograph demonstrates how the body of a small child fits easily inside a 4x12 cab.

You might as well save some time and just take your $322 and flush it down the crapper right now. That amp is cheap dog shit. The specs state that the 4x12 is made of "plywood" yet it only weighs 58 pounds. Considering that a raw frame speaker weighs around 10 pounds, that would mean the cab is about 18 pounds. A real 4x12 cab made of 3/4" plywood would weigh in excess of 90 pounds. You'd be better off running the Blackstar HT Dual through the P.A. and saving for a real amp that won't become obsolete in a week.

Honestly if it was me I would save my money. A good 30 watt tube combo (even a 1X12) will sound and do way better than any 100watt+ solid state half stack.

Shoot even a 15 watt tube amp will be better than what your looking at.

Especially if it's going to double as a recording amp, it's much better to have a lower wattage combo amp than it is to have a high wattage solid state half stack.

I'm speaking from experience man, my first half stack was similar and it was just fucking shitty (the cheapest crate solid state half stack available 10 years ago). Didn't cut through live and sounded like a shitty chain saw, just not worth it in the long run.

I would WAY rather have a 1X12 20watt jet city combo than the half stack your looking at (just an example).

well shit... maybe I will look for something better. its a good weekend to buy, MF and GC is having 15% off sales! My little Fender Frontman 25R aint cuttin it no more!

You can get a Bugera 1960 on MF.com's stupid deal today. I have no idea how reliable it is though....

Audio demos seemed promising though.

hmm - sold out anyway... I think I am gonna wait and try out some more amps and stuff before I decide. It's not like a pressing need :)
