Hello everyone, i need an opinion on how well do ya'll think this set up will work. I'm shopping for a new board, and i need one with a good piano sound. I've found the kurzweil sp88 to be a good sounding board, but yet i'm running into a problem. I have a group, and i usually make backing tracks for us (i do drums first, then add bass, then melody...ect). I see that this kurzweil does not have any drum sounds. When i make the tracks i usually tap out the drum tracks (on my now half dead yamaha) using a click, so i can get more of a "real" drum feel, and not just a pattern. I was wondering if this would work: use my midi cables into the kurzweil, and then out to the boss, and back into the midi program, to now get the music part, and the drums also. And could i use the keys on the kurzweil to trigger the drum sounds? I have tried other keyboard w/drum sounds...such as the alesis 8.2, but i really don't like it that much. The sales guy said that he'd give me the kurzweil + the boss for 998 (he's throwing in some extra midi cables). Will this work/and be a good option. 1000 bucks is what i have to play with.

Sorry for the long post, but i know who to come to when i need help.

If I follow you correctly...

and I think I do, what you're asking is if two MIDI modules from different companies will work together to produce the desired result

The answer is yes.

You can go a step further, though, and if the Kurzweil has a 'local off' mode, you can set it to 'on', thereby breaking the connection between the sound source inside and the keyboard outside. Since you mention a 'midi program' I assume that means you are using a computer, and this 'local off' mode will give you the flexibility to choose the sound you will be playing just by selecting the corresponding midi out channel from the Kurzweil keyboard.

When you're connecting your midi cables, try this: One from the out of the Kurzweil to the in of the computer, then from the out of the computer to the in of the Kurzweil, then from the midi thru of the Kurzweil to the DR670.

Hope this helps,

:D
