I'm an ex-professional musician (piano, keys, guitars and arranging/composition) getting back into music after a long break and starting a home studio for instrumental composition and recording. Not really interested in live gigging any more so just need a good 88 weighted controller with great action and some built in sounds for working ideas quickly.
I'm wondering whether to get the Yamaha S90 XS for the action and piano sound or the Kurzweil PC3X (plus Synthogy Ivory if I don't like piano sounds) to utilise its V.A.S.T. analog and sequencing capability. I'm trying to avoid multiple keyboards if possible. I'll be using Sibelius heavily for scoring, not sure about the DAW or sound libraries yet.
Any thoughts on whether the Kurzweil might be more useful overall as part of the rig? For, say, film/TV music is it better to sequence via the keyboard or the DAW?
Very rusty on the equipment/studio/midi side of things after such a long break but reasonably IT literate, so any advice very welcome.
Thanks,
Robert
