My brother has one of these for his kids and wants to get a rig to do recording for voice and this "Kurzweil" keyboard. I assume there is a line out on the Kurzweil which can be plugged into a preamp and then into a studio in a box (Fortex, Korg, etc.)

But can he not also go direct into his soundcard to make (wav?) files to then covner to mp3 and send to his buddies, and is this easily accomplised? He will want to overlay voice tracks. My thinking is that the cheapest route is just to get a decent sound card and plug, alternately, his microphone and the keyboard into that sound card. Sound reasonable? Does CoolEdit work in this scenario? I'll post this same message there.

I am a guitar player who is used to singing into one track of a Fostex, then laying down the guitar tracks separately, again using a microphone, so if you can analogize the keyboard & voice recording procedure to that , I would appreciate it. Thank you.

The mic needs a preamp, the kurz does not.
The rest of your assumptions are correct.
