its not an effect. its multiple stacks and vocalign. sometimes they don't need vocalign but its used sometimes. i've delt with john, scrappy and quite a few others here in atlanta. i have groups of my own that will be out this summer... but i'm getting tired of crunk music to tell you the truth. i always have artist come to me andask me to produce a crunk track for them.. i do it just to get paid, but i grew up on real hiphop..crunk ain't hiphop.. its to get the clubs bouncing only like the south can do.
first, have a crunk "chant" style hook
ie: "yall ni**az can't f*ck wit my ni**gz hoe"
ie: You ain't nothin but B*tch"
stack the vocals at least 4 time depending on the thinkness and how you wanna pan... i've known steve to track up to 16-20 takes for a crunk hook
(steve is a engineer at patchwerk studios here in atlanta)
then compress, pan, add a slight delay, a lil reverb and that it
if you use pro tools use vocalign(i'm
a nuendo 2.2 and now
nuendo 3 user)
some ppl try to cheat like this:
record the hook 3 times. pan C-L-R then copy the channels and pitch shift them. it sounds alright but its just not the same.
waves has some plugins that have "CROWD" settings but they won't give you the same sound.. it'll sound rather processed and a little thin.
you can holla at me in a PM if you want to
