I've searched the boards and have come up with some good info on the Tannoy's and Events, but not so much about the KRK's. If you have any experience with these monitors, please let me know what you think. All three are around $700, and unfortunately my budget won't go any higher, so Mackie's are out of the question. Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

Thanks for the reviews, Dolemite. :)

Does anyone have any personal experience with these monitors? I'd love to hear from someone who's actually owned them, and get their impressions.

Ihs,

Just bought the Event 20/20bas system a few weeks ago....let me say it was an "ear altering" experience....

Unbelievable flat response and they expose everything (good, bad and ugly)....CD's that I thought I had cased years ago sound completely different...

On my own work, I have really learned how to mix properly since getting this system...

Not exactly cheap but worth it...

The 20/20s are great. I got a pair this past January. Since them it has helped to take quite a load off of trying to get a good mix. As the previous post said, they are flat and they tell the truth about your sound, but they are still easier to listen to for long periods.

A note about Event monitors thought...if you do get a pair, get the 20/20s. I tried some of the PS series monitors from Event and they sucked.

 I assure you, the PS-Series do not "suck"...

...they are actually quite decent monitors, but they aren't for everyone....

The PS-6s and 8s are very similar in sonic characteristic to the 20/20s... just a bit "smaller"

All the Events tend to be smooth-sounding - sometimes overly so... you have to be careful you don't misjudge critical frequency areas with them.....

Well, let me explain on the Event PS series a little more. Ok, so I will admit that while I personally think the PS series is not that great, I will say though that they are still decent compared to other monitor in those price ranges.

However, my personal experience with them was not very good. 1st, I got a pair of PS 5s that were defective. Then I got a pair of PS 6s that had noise in them during playback. And the fact that the sound from the 20/20s is to me superior in comparison. I admit that I don't know about the PS 8, but why get a PS 8 when you can get a 20/20.

So, perhaps the fact I got 2 defective products in the PS series did not help much, but I truly do believe that the sound from the 20/20s is the best.

Micro,

Did you get the powered 20/20's (bas) or passive? If passive - what amp are you running with them?

Also - I never really noticed it until you mentioned it but I really can stay mixing for much longer with the 20/20's...not a lot of ear fatigue...

Cuzin,

I have a pair of the 20/20 bas monitors, so I don't have an amp with them.

And yeah, the 20/20s I think are simply the best all-around speaker for sound, flat-response, and good on ear fatigue. I highly suggest them to anyone looking for a pair of monitors.

Micro.

Micro,

Couple of other quick Q's for ya:

1. Do either/both of your 20/20's have a small muffled pop when you power them down?

2. Do they get really warm on the back of the cabinet after a 2 or 3 hour session?

Cuzin,

The answer to both of your questions is 'yes'.

I was concerned myself about this at first, but after reading the manual and talking to Event, it is a perfectly normal thing.

The Event staff were very helpful with my inquiries too.

Micro,

Don't know how your Events get their power but I found if I use a switchable powerstrip, I get a small pop from only one of my speakers. (the left one).

In my setup, the power cable from the left speaker has to cross quite a bit of other wiring before it gets to the powerstrip. I am wondering if I am picking up something from some other cabling.

My experience with Event tech support lead me to a few other forums where other users have said it has something to do with the AC ground. I am going to experiment and move this left speaker around the room and see what happens. The right speaker power cable does not have to cross any other cables and it powers off silently.

I will update if I find anything else out.
