I have a tascam us 122mkII, 2 xlr 1/4 " cords, 2 krk Rokit 5's, and an alienware m17x laptop. I have everything hooked up, but do not know how to get sound. I am a noob at this stuff, and really just want my speakers to work :(... please help.

Install the drivers for the Tascam. Get the latest for your particular OS from HERE. <click the link. Install it.

In Windows; Control Panel>Sounds, make the US 122 your default audio device. Get RCA to 1/4" cables to run from the US122 to the KRK's.

Return here if you have more questions. :)

And welcome to the forum merg!

so i need different cords than i already have? I am sorry I am really noob at this. as of right now I have the 2 male to male xlr 1/4" cords plugged into the Krk's and in the "mic L" and "mic R".

It's ok. We all start somewhere.

Yeah, you need other cables like THESE. Remove the cables you have hooked up now. Mic L/R are input channels. You plug in microphones here. The output for monitors on the 122, are the two RCA jacks on the rear. The red and white ones.

Thank you so much for the insight! I have but one more question. I have looked around a little bit, doesn't the unbalanced RCA make sound quality not as good as if I used TRS balanced? or do i not know what i am talking about? if so is there a way i can use the TRS balanced plug ins instead?

Nope. The audio quality is the same. However, the chance for interference from external sources is greater without a balanced (TRS or XLR) connection. In such a short distance, this is typically not an issue. Make sure to avoid crossing AC (power) lines with the monitor cables. If they must cross each other, make sure they are not parallel. Make them cross at 90 degree angle. This will help to avoid introduction of noise.

Oh, and no problem. You are very welcome. I am always here to help when I can. :)
