Korg X3's keys???

Hi everyone!!!

I've been looking at this keyboard, and I've heard someone, somewhere say that if a hammond patch is selected and you "lean" harder on the keys, you get the swirly rotary effect of a leslie speaker. Does this mean once a note is played with your finger, and as your finger stays on the note, you put more pressure on that key, this effect occurs?? Or is this person trying to say that if the play the key softly, you get the effect less, and then if you play the key again, but harder, you get more of th effect??

Also I was wandering, whether a modulation knob helps to give good realtime organ sounds???

That person was correct. This is called Aftertouch. Aftertouch can usually be assigned to do many things, such as adding the Leslie affect as you mentioned or even adjusting things such as cut-off frequency, LFO speed, etc. The Modulation knob (Wheel), can likewise be set to control the same functions. Which functions are controllable by which, is dependent on the particular synth. Some synths don't feature aftertouch. The X3 does, but it is Mono Pressure Aftertouch, which means only one key can send aftertouch data at a time, where most newer models can transmit aftertouch from several keys simultaneously (Poly-Pressure Aftertouch). But this isn't a major limitation by any stretch. There are also plenty of patches online to give you an idea of what the X3 can do with some careful tweaking, as well as some nice editors for creating patches right on your PC. Also the X3 has programmable Footswitch/Pedal inputs.
