Korg tuner - Electricity question

I have a Korg Auto Chromatic Tuner AT-12. Works great!

It's plugged into a power bar. When I turn the power bar on, I have to turn off the tuner and then turn it back on again or it won't work.

Anybody know why?

Many electronic devices have soft power switches. The power swith doesnt actually control the voltage it tells the devices processor to turn on the power. Same as your computer.
 
Auto off

There might be an auto-off feature in the device, in order to save batteries (which you don't use).

Try switching the power on (first the powerbar, then the tuner) and then switch the powerbar off (within one minute) Then turn the bar on again. Is your tuner powered up now?? If not, it's the switch, if it's on it's the auto-off feature!

I tried that and it still didn't come on.

Interestingly when I powerbar to power it up the tuning doesn't work but some lights such as the octave light up and sometimes a note indication light comes on but all idications including needle movement are spurious and incorrect.

Thanks Tex! That is a possibility also.

I subsequently spoke to an electrical engineer friend who suggested that it might actually be a feature, in that if there was a power failure, the unit would be designed to turn off completely in order to protect itself from a surge, as the electric circuit might surge a bit when it re energized.

Any thoughts?
